Statistical Thermodynamics

We aim at developing the framework of “stochastic energetics” that introduces the notions of equilibrium and non-equilibrium thermodynamics (heat, work, free energy, irreversible dissipations) to the fluctuating phenomena described by the Langevin equation and its generalized variants. We have established the relation to the ordinary macroscopic thermodynamics and chemical reaction theory, as well as to recent nano-scale science including nano-biology.

The advancement of experimental technologies that enables to access the sub-micrometer and nano-second scale requires the description of small-scale process not based on the ensemble averaged measures (probability distribution) but on the path-based, i.e. individual realization based, measures.
